The Shack Recovery Island – 3 x 58 litre lanes

The Shack includes 3 compartments of 58L allowing the sorting of recyclable, organic and waste materials.

MATERIAL – The Shack is designed and manufactured in Quebec. The product is manufactured in the Formétal factory-school whose mission is to socially and professionally reintegrate young dropouts. Made of sheet steel with 50% recycled content and recyclable at the end of its life, finished with electrostatic paint (baked paint) for great durability, The Shack has a hinged lid that opens on the top to facilitate unloading of bags. The openings available are square. The bin uses 11-gauge sheet metal, except for the bottom which is 11-gauge. Standard colors are black, brown, steel gray and white (other colors available to choose from).

A mobilia base is placed at the bottom of the module to keep the 3 plastic liners of 58 liters (23 US gal) securely in place.

26″ x 36″ bags can be used inside each of the liners, which have a lip at their top, are made of plastic with 35% recycled content. Their proper insertion into the compartment is facilitated by two guides fixed to the bottom.

DIMENSIONS – The exterior dimensions of a module are 83.82 cm or 33″ (wide) × 38.1 cm or 15″ (deep) × 76.2 cm or 30″ (high).

CASTERS – 2″ diameter quiet rubber casters make it easy to move the unit, even when loaded with materials.

DISPLAY (optional) – For display, the use of 3M vinyl stickers with a Teflon finish allows for easy change of posters as needed. The glue used is suitable for metal and electrostatic paint, so that it is just difficult enough to remove the stickers (preventing breakage by users), while allowing their removal in the event that they need to be changed.

This type of sticker and glue have proven themselves on bins in the Montreal metro, where passengers may be tempted to tear off the sticker. Experience shows that removal is too difficult, which discourages passengers, but still possible for the team responsible for replacing posters.

Vinyl stickers are coated with Teflon to ensure durability and prevent wear. Vinyl makes the stickers difficult to tear and is easily washable.
